The grade 11 classes should be coming in to finish up any assignments or ecarts they have not handed in for marks. Several students are failing this trimester simply because they did not hand in their assigned work or their ecarts.

If you want to know what your current mark is, come into the school and check on the wall in the class for your mark.

Remember, I cannot give you a mark if you have not done the work. PLEASE bring in your work, before it is too late and the markbook is closed by ADEC.

October 22

Many grade 12 students have been asking about when the CEPA test will be scheduled. It looks like they will only be sitting these exams in March and May of next year. The information we have received seems to indicate that there will not be one in November of this year. This gives all those who want to take this test, some extra time to practice on the MOCK Exams I have supplied you with.

Make sure you are keeping your eCart files in order and that your Title Page is up to date. In about 2-3 weeks I will be taking them in for marks. Soon we will be finished the ISTs and then the projects will be presented.

With the changes in the schedule and the switching of students in classes over EID it has been a challenge to stay on track, but most of you are managing. Remember to attend all your classes, and please be on time. When you are late, it disrupts the learning of the other students.

We are halfway through the first trimester. Keep doing your work, reading your assignments and soon we will have the Winter Break.

Remember that there will be Parent Teacher meetings on October 30th.
Here are the new files, if you need them.

First ISTs due this week

October 1
Students should be building up their ecarts (file folders) so they will have evidence that they have been working and achieving in class.  The first ISTs are due by the end of this week. I have included the files we have worked on for the last 2 weeks. If you have missed any classes, be sure to print out any worksheets you might have missed.

All Al Quaa cycle 3 students, who are citizens of the UAE, are to be taking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and that means they must wear their sports clothing. If they do not have the proper clothing, they are to join the other students in their English class.

There still has been no information as to when the CEPA exam is to take place. As soon as I find out, I will communicate the dates to the students

Here are the files from the last 2 weeks

September 22

Students are becoming more familiar with their new timetables, classmates, and moving from class to class. Attendance is improving, but remember you must go directly to your class; coming in late disturbs the students who made the effort to show up on time. It is best to be respectful of others.

The dates for the first CEPA exam sitting have not been published, but as soon as they are, I will post the information here.

Several students have missed the first couple of weeks of school, therefore I am setting up links to some worksheets that other students have already completed. These sheets are to be completed and put into your ecart file.

If you miss a day of school. remember we will be working on English that day. To catch up, please check to see if any worksheets or assignments were given that day.

You are responsible for any work you have missed.

Welcome Back to School 2013-2014

Welcome back to Al Qua'a Boy's School for the 2013- 2014 school year. This website has been set up to facilitate communication between Mr Kim and his students and the parents of his students.

I will be including infromation about school events and what the boys are doing in class.

I will also include files of the handouts and worksheets the boys are given in class. This will allow them to be sure to have a complete ecart to hand in.

If a student or parent has a question, please post it on the site and I will answer it as soon as possible.

This week we are beginning the new semester. The grade 11 students are studying :"A Healthy Society" and the grade 12 students are studying "Careers and Future Choices"

June 25- Last Post for this School Year

Well classes are over and school is done (unless you are resitting an exam). I hope everyone has a great summer. I will be returning in September and will again be teaching the Grade 11 classes.

I have had an interesting and exciting 6 months in Al Qua'a and I hope next year is even better.

If you have a friend or family member in grade 10, please let them know about this website so they know where to go for information about my classes next year.

Tuesday 18 June 2013

June 18th
Exams are now finished and I hope everyone did well on them. However, if you did not do as well as you had hoped, please make arrangements to attend the "RESIT" exam for English.

Resits are scheduled from June 23 to the 27th in Al Ain.

Please see the school to make arrangements to register for the exam. These exams are administered in Al Ain.

Saturday 1 June 2013

Last Week of Classes until Exams Begin

June 2 We are into the final week before the exams begin. This is a short week as June 6th is a holiday. There are still a few students who have not handed in their assignments or eCart.

Please have that completed before I must submit my marks to ADEC.

A reminder that the work submitted should be your own, not photocopied or copied from someone else. Simply handing in the sheets that you were assigned, with no attempt made to complete the assignments, will not give you a mark. The work must be completed. This is the same work we did together in class.

Remember to come to class this week as it is a regular week of school. (Except shorter)

Tuesday 28 May 2013

Please Study for Exam on June 10

May 29 If you have not picked up the old exams to study for the final exam, please use the files I am including here. These are copies of the old 2012 Term 3 exams so you can use them to study. Please review your vocabulary from term 3 as well.

Remember to hand in any work that you have not submitted. If it is not handed in you will receive a mark of 0% for that assignment. PLEASE hand the work in before your mark is submitted to ADEC.

Time to Hand in eCart folder and deliver Lifeplan Speech

May 19
It is that time in the term when you need to hand in your folder/file for your mark. Make sure you have all your pages and that they are completed. Your Table of Contents also needs to be completed. Do not photocopy someone else's work and hand it in as your own.

You will be preparing your Lifeplan speech on Monday and it is to be presented in front of the class on Wednesday.

We will begin working on Test taking skills and tricks to help you get ready for your English Exam. The exam is scheduled for Monday, June 10th.

Remember if you are missing pages for your file, they can be downloaded from this website.

Welcome back to the start of Trimester 3

Welcome back for the final trimester this school year. We will be starting a new unit focussed on Citizenship and Civic Responsibility.

We have a new list of vocabulary words each student is expected to know by the end of the term. I am including it as an attachment and if you would like to see how your son is doing, feel free to use it to help them review the words with you.Grade 11 Vocabulary Trimester 3, 2013

Unfortunately I do not have the Arabic translations, but that is also something your son could work on at home. We also review the words in class, but if he has already translated the words at home, then it becomes simply a review in the class.

I will be adding other files as we continue on in the class. Please check on the website and if you have questions, please contact me or come to the school. I would be happy to meet you.

Welcome to my English Class Blog

I am just setting this up. I hope it allows my students and their parents to see what is going on in class. I will try to update it weekly and will include files for any handouts needed for your ecart folders.

There is also a place for you to comment or ask questions if you need clarification on anything.

I hope this works :-)

Remember Monday  March 25 is your EMSA test. Please review the sample questions and if you want some extra practice readings to work on, let me know in the Comments section, and then come into the school to pick up the practice test.

The english teachers at AL Qua'a School have set up a website so students and parents can keep up to date with what is happening at Al Qua'a School and can contact teachers, if needed. Please use the link below to go to the site.
